Mariella von Vequel-Westernach

Lighting Designer

was born in Munich and has been working as a light designer and master of event technology for lighting for over 20 years. She worked at the Bavarian Radio in Munich, the Munich Kammerspiele and in the German Pavilion of the EXPO 2000 in Hanover. Further stations were the Schauspiel Hannover (2009-2014), the Lucerne Theater (2014-2015), the Music Theater in the district Gelsenkirchen (2015-2017) and since 2017 the Staatstheater Stuttgart. In this her current post she works mainly for the Stuttgart Ballet, but is also responsible for designing light for opera productions such as Jossi Wieler’s new production of Don Pasquale. Among the many theaters she has worked in designing for drama, opera and ballet/dance, Ms. Vequel-Westernach has created designs for:  the theaters Dortmund, Augsburg, Hagen, the Munich Residenztheater, the Bavarian State Opera, the RuhrTriennale, the Finnish National Opera Helsinki, the Graz Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Theater St. Gallen. Furthermore, she has partnered with choreographers and directors such as Marguerite Donlon and Ben Baur u.a. in freelance productions worldwide.
