The Delattre Dance Company is a contemporary/modern company founded in 2012 by the team of Stephen Delattre (artistic director and chief choreographer) and Martin Opelt (company manager and executive director). From its first humble beginnings as a project company of 6 artists out of the Mainzer Kammerspiele they have now more than doubled in size and have grown and matured to be one of the most well known, respected and successful private dance companies in Germany.
The DDC currently produces multiple productions a year for their home audience in Mainz, and tour extensively throughout Europe with two rotating productions at a time. Besides the popular work of their house namesake and leader, the diverse and athletic programs of the DDC often partner with international guests the likes of  Marco Goecke, Bridget Breiner, Regina van Berkel, Maurice Causey, and Kenneth Tindall, among others.
Since the DDC was founded in 2012 their audience has increased by 420% and throughout their average 45 performances a year have managed an impressive 90% capacity.
Delattre Dance Company has also produced three hit full-length narrative productions taken from the genre of classic literature; Momo, Notre Dame des Paris, and their latest The Picture of Dorian Gray.
Stephen and Martin, together with their ensemble are committed to spreading their passion for dance and the experience of the very special DDC evenings to new audiences whereever they may be found, and have therefore crafted their programs to be both compact and flexible so as to make it easier to bring the DDC to a theater near you! Stephen Delattre

Artistic Director

After more than twelve years as an experienced soloist dancing many companies and theaters, Stephen Delattre undertook the founding of his namesake company with the goal of bringing evenings of athletic, dynamic, and poetic dance to challenge, inspire, and entertain his audiences. His uniquely expressive choreographic style is the foundation for the company together with his personal network of artists throughout the dance world.

Martin Opelt

Executive Director

As co-founder of the DDC, Martin’s main task is to ensure the quality of the ensemble in every way possible. As such, he is the “Jack-of-all-trades” for the company, taking over many of the tasks that other theater companies have whole departments for. From the general business admistration and company management to the overseeing of set/costume production and even to the prodution and communication of publicity materials and campaigns.  Simply put, Martin, is the enabler that allows the artistic talents and vision of Mr. Delattre the freedom to blossom through the work of the DDC.

The DDC is available for bookings for selected dates still in the current and upcoming 2019-2020 theater seasons, and will be presenting a new full-length narrative work to be announced soon and available for booking as of July 2020!. The company also has a variety of smaller works that can be selected and put together in a custom made mixed program of contemprory dance…. simply inquire to learn more about the exciting potential of the DDC in your theater!

Oscar Wilde, the creator of the Salome, managed like no other English-speaking author, to pinpoint the lifestyle of his time. The Picture of Dorian Gray (1890) is his only novel known worldwide and at the same time his most widely read and most dramatized work. In the focus of the narrative are the social phenomena of decadence and hedonism. “How sad to know that I’m getting older, but this painting always stays young.”

Dorian Gray’s words about the portrait for which he modelled become the turning point in the life of the innocent and naive beauty. Under the influence of Lord Henry’s apparent passions about passion, lust and desire, Dorian transforms into an unscrupulous and corrupt person, destroying people around him in the absence of any morality.

Accompany in this dramatic and captivating ballet, the young and beautiful Dorian who is rising in the intoxication of the senses, who is celebrated and adored by his environment like a god. Experience the dark side of social life at the time of the Fin de Siècle. Become a witness to human weaknesses and sins such as decadence, obsession with beauty and unscrupulous egoism.
